At My Newborn, I offer families personalised and holistic baby sleep programs that facilitate a more desirable set of sleeping habits for any baby or child aged 0-5.
I am professionally trained with over 16 years of experience in the field. I have trialled and studied all the major sleep training methods to formulate a systematic sleep and support program that has an extremely high success rate.
Not every family has the same idea around how they choose to parent and no two babies are the same, therefore each sleep program is personalised based on your baby’s history, health, personality, temperament, habits, stage of development, as well as the parenting philosophy you wish to maintain.
After analysing your individual situation, I come back to you with a personalised plan to improve your baby’s overall sleep. I prefer to use gentle/reassuring settling techniques and offer a holistic approach when analysing each case.
Once a method has been chosen, I then provide you with bespoke instructions and carefully guide you through the changes needed to teach your baby how to sleep through the night. The support element of my programs are crucial to success, and I can guide you step-by-step, day-by-day and nap-by-nap.
I will be right there with you every day of the support period (which is three weeks) until your baby is sleeping through the night and/or taking longer naps throughout the day.
I worked as a full-time nanny for many years in Australia before moving to London to study Maternity Nursing. I spent 8 years working as a private Maternity Nurse in homes all over the world.
Families hired me for the first few months of their baby’s life and I taught the parents everything they needed to know about caring for their little loves. At the beginning of my career, I worked 24hours a day, 7 days a week. Hours upon hours of learning about how baby’s sleep.
I travelled from family to family, country to country, clocking up invaluable round the clock day and night baby experience. During this time, I helped hundreds of families and began to see close similarities in a newborn’s sleep patterns. I became obsessed with logging sleep data on each baby I worked with. Over these years, I studied and researched Children’s Sleep Physiology, Qualified as a Maternity and Child Sleep Consultant, and became a Birth and Postnatal Doula.
I had a strong passion for this career and quickly realised I had a valuable skill set in teaching babies how to sleep through the night in the shortest amount of time (usually within the first 4 months).
I would get calls and emails from families located all around the world asking “can you teach My Newborn how to sleep?”. It was then, My Newborn was born!
As well as being professionally trained, my biggest point of differentiation is my time living-in with dozens of families around the world in constantly changing environments. This enabled me to understand different family dynamics, in particular how to read temperaments and personalities of different babies, whilst giving me the time to practise each of my previously studied sleep training methods.
Put simply, I firmly believe there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach. This has been a fundamental principle of mine from the beginning and something that has constantly stood the test of time. To achieve success with your baby’s sleep, the first step requires me to get a thorough understanding of your child and their current habits that could be impacting their sleep.
Taking a detailed account of your baby’s unique behavioural patterns alongside closely adopting your parenting philosophy, I will devise a bespoke sleep training plan with simple to follow step by step instructions. The key to lasting success with your baby’s sleep is to implement the steps I provide.
In addition to mentoring and working closely with you on each step, my programs also come with daily support for a further 3 weeks to ensure these steps are implemented most effectively. The daily support includes logs for you to fill in to keep me regularly updated and be able to monitor the progress as well as help you fine-tune the techniques until we get your baby sleeping through the night.
Nearly all healthy babies are physiologically capable of sleeping through the night (i.e. 10-12 hours) without assistance by the age of 6 months. If best practices are implemented early on, some baby’s can sleep successfully a little earlier in months 4 or 5.
Each family’s situation is unique so the baby’s sleep learning process can vary. However, I can confidently say that there are quick wins early on when my recommendations are implemented correctly. Most families see improvements with within the first two weeks.
The two main factors to your baby’s sleeping success:
The traditional Cry it Out and Extinction Method (where you leave your baby alone without responding) is not part of my philosophy. I strongly believe that you should not leave your baby to cry for prolonged periods on their own, as you need to be there at regular moments to comfort and encourage them during the implementation of their new sleeping routine.
However, when you have a willful baby who has developed a negative sleep habit over a long period of time (sometimes their whole life), they will generally cry and protest when making changes to improve their sleeping habits. I will never ask you to leave your baby to cry for extended periods of time, if that is not something you are not comfortable with. Before embarking on any baby sleep program, it is important to understand the process for each method and this is where I will help you devise a plan that suits your family as a whole.
Together we develop a sleep plan that you feel comfortable adopting and I will educate, support and guide you throughout the process.
Once you have decided that you would like to proceed with an In-Home Program, you will need to fill in the questionnaire. I will determine available dates that suit both parties and you will then be required to pay a 25% non-refundable deposit to secure the booking.
After payment has been received, I will make recommendations for you to work on before I arrive. These valuable sleeping tips will help set your baby up for better night and daytime sleeping, and could possibly make some improvements in your baby’s sleep even before the program starts.
The support element of any offered program is crucial to the sleeping success. I will be checking in on you and your baby’s progress every day through logs, multiple times a day for three weeks. Having close contact and support during this time is essential to get you through all the stages necessary to teach your baby how to sleep better. I will go above and beyond offering support to clients to ensure sleeping success, as I know that your success is also mine! (Phone Consultation excluded).
I am committed to improving your baby’s sleeping routine, however, success can only be achieved if you are equally committed as well. Your baby will be learning new ways of going to sleep and learning new habits takes time, patience, commitment and perseverance.
In order to achieve the best results possible, it is highly recommended that you avoid planning any holidays or nights away from home for two to three weeks during the implementation of the new sleep plan to maintain consistency in your baby’s environment.
At My Newborn, I guarantee to provide a professional and tailored service to every client. Achieving success is heavily dependent on the parents’ commitment to implementing the new routine as well as clear alignment on the goals we agree. If you follow my recommendations and remain consistent throughout the sleep training period, I guarantee an improvement in your baby’s sleep.
You certainly can! I have a beautiful gift certificate that I can email directly to you or mail to the lucky recipient of this wonderful gift.
Yes! I am available to assist international clients. I have travelled to 52 countries, helping sleep-deprived families and would be happy to fly to you. Please contact me to find out more.
There are two main reasons for avoiding or curing a sleep problem. The first is to protect the physical and emotional well-being of you and your whole family. If your baby is not sleeping, then either one or both parents will be sleep deprived.
The second reason for avoiding sleep deprivation is to further the child’s own physical and emotional well-being. Broken nights and the tiredness these produce will interfere with your baby’s mood, feeding routine and will ultimately affect his or her physical and psychological development.
If your baby and family are suffering from unnecessary wakes, it is important to take action soon. It never too late to start teaching healthy sleep habits to your baby. Just think, in less then a few weeks (sometimes sooner) your baby could be sleeping 8-12hrs at night.
