Here’s my honest review of My Newborn and Jen, a professional Sydney sleep consultant for Babies
Baby: Almost 5 months
Sleep challenge: 4-month sleep regression. Baby waking up every hour at night (past midnight) for close to a month, has impacted my ability to get some decent night sleep. He was always rocked/held/fed to sleep and eventually outgrew his bassinet when he started rolling back to his tummy. We started co-sleeping more regularly since then, which had him wiggling to my boob every hour for a feed or a comfort feed. Needless to say, this sleeping arrangement was no longer sustainable and Mama needed some help!
I reached out to Jen out of desperation, after trying to resolve my baby’s sleep by myself with the help of Dr Google and many ebooks on baby sleep. I’ve tried several different methods to help my boy learn to sleep better but with not a whole lot of success. I tried to book us into the Trescillian Day Service but I felt like teaching my baby to sleep in his bed made more sense (vs in another unfamiliar environment). Turns out my friend’s baby learned to sleep better with Jen’s help as well, which was the extra reassurance I needed to give her program a go.
After the initial consultation with our Sydney sleep consultant for Babie, we decided to book the JENtle Sleep Shaping Program, with the intention of helping my little one ease into his new rhythm, in the comfort of our own home. Within a couple of days, we were already adjusting to a more structured day with no tears, and on the fifth day, I shushed and patted my baby to sleep in two minutes. Jen was super responsive on the daily logs and tailored the program to our baby’s temperament and our parenting style with no judgment. She also gave us a few options to consider, and I never felt pressured to do anything I was not comfortable with.
Two weeks on, I can’t believe we got back a few hours in the evening to enjoy some baby-free time as a couple. While I still have to get up a couple of times at night to feed him because he’s a tiny baby (5.9kg at 4.5 months), we are seeing an improvement in his sleep. His hourly waking has turned into longer stretches of sleep (ranging from 2 to 4 hours). I’m hopeful that we can get him back to sleep in 5-6 hour stretches again, closer to where he was before his 4-month sleep regression kicked in. We will be back if/when we’re ready to continue with the third phase of the program to help my baby learn to self-settle quickly.
I recommend her program to any families looking to help their little ones sleep better and get some normality back into their lives. Getting an expert sleep consultant for babies is the best decision we made!
